Wait, we have a blog?

It appears that in the 4 (or 5 depending on how you count) we have made 4 - now 5 - blog posts. Ok, well, we’ll try to do better, but in fairness we have been busy.

Last time we posted it was to say that the street patio was coming back. And it did! That was in 2021. It also came back in 2022, and 2023, although it was 2x the money in 2023 as we got less government support. Nevertheless we are planning for having them return in 2024 because we think they’re pretty cool and people like them.

Before that happens though we are planning to have some additional special events and activities, so watch Facebook and Instagram for those. We don’t use anything else, being somewhat old school and that, but hey we could tell you we’re taking an ad in the newspaper or skywriting so don’t be complaining. If you don’t know what a newspaper is ask your parents, or possibly your grandparents at this point.

Patio futures

You will have noticed that through the summer we had a street side patio, provided again thanks to King Township. Like all seasonal good things this had to go, but will hopefully return in 2022. You can help make that happen by registering your opinion at schombergmainstreet.ca

In the interim we have patio heaters and a propane stand-up bar/heater outside plus patio space with heaters across the street, so we hope to see you soon. Stay well!

On line(s)

Hopefully you enjoyed the last year of staying at home and watching Bill and Ted’s. Did you notice they made a new one? Well they did. And you can get coffee and treats to go so you can get back to doing whatever it is we’re all doing until things go back to normal. We are too small to open up but thanks to the wonderful Paul and Michelle at Hest and Hem we have an online ordering function just like modern people so you can order in advance. And we will have some form of patio again this summer and we’re looking forward to seeing all of you there. Just don’t all come at the same time. More news soon.

Virus!

TL;DR Pandemic means we’re closed but you can order beans through Facebook; watch Bill and Ted again.

Yes as you are probably aware (insert icon for understatement) there is a pandemic on. Here at Grackle we are taking this whole disease thing fairly seriously, in that after we closed as normal on Sunday we had our normal commercial cleaners come in on Monday and focus on “bleach the hell out of everything”. And then we locked the doors, the day before the state of emergency was declared. We could have gone with operating as a takeout service but even that is risky and your - and our - health isn’t worth it.

That said, we are still selling beans; text or hit us on Facebook and we’ll leave some out for you and you can pay us with etransfer or leave the cash under a rock or something. And if you need anything - like legitimately need food or an emergency lift or even just to talk to someone from more than 6’ away - we are here, just reach out, no charge :).

It’s a crazy time and everyone is struggling to find a way though it so we need to do like Bill and Ted said and Be Excellent to each other. Just don’t get physically close to anyone you aren’t already living with, because those spring break idiots are most definitely not excellent.

We are planning to re-open as soon as possible after all this, even if it is through a take-out window with outdoor seating, so we’ll let everyone know via FaceBook and Insta and etc. when there is a plan.

Casual classics and coffee

Despite it being hotter than it really should be in this part of Ontario we had around a dozen neat cars show up for Coffee and Classics. There were some pretty neat cars and really nice people, and we had no rain so the convertible drivers were happy. And the coffee was good thanks to a mid-morning emergency espresso machine service to correct a pressure issue so the Quality Assurance team was happy. (QA is also part of the Safety team, headed up by Goodboy Jim). We hope to do another one of these, possibly in September when the vacation season is over and the sidewalks aren’t melting. That said we also had cyclists come in so if they can do it… Some pictures are below, or check the Facebook posts because others got better ones than we did. Thanks to everyone who came out!
